U10 Team Attends "Ringette Scores on Cancer"
Calgary Bowview U10 Ringette Everest Thunderwent to Edmonton with over $6,100 in hand raised for Cancer research. These fourteen girls did us proud in the fundraising for a great cause, and did the same on the ice at West Edmonton Mall tournament January 21-23.
When some team members found out about a Ringette Tournament played at the West Edmonton Mall in January that combines the fun of Ringette and sportsmanship with Cancer awareness, raising money for the Alberta Cancer Society and the Cross Cancer Institute, they REALLY wanted to participate in the fun and fundraising. They were one of the selected teams, from many applications. The condition the coaching staff made was that they take ownership of the fundraising and spreading the word.
University City Challenge Cup
The University of Calgary won it's Fifth Straight University City Challenge Cup, held this year in London Ontario December 29 to January 2. The team competed in Tier 1 with 5 other teams. It was a sweep for Alberta with Mount Royal University winning Silver and U of A winning Bronze.
Mount Royal Team shows their Christmas Spirit
The MRU Open A team volunteered their time for the Airdrie Food Bank. They helped collect $1,500 in food donations and $1,350 cash/gift card donations.
Donations to date had been very low so this drive helped fill their shelves. One young woman come in and said how the food bank helped her out last year and how very grateful she was, she had tears in her eyes when she gave a $10 donation and said that she is doing much better this year … that is what it is all about!
The team should be very proud of the excellent job they did to help people less fortunate!!
Canada Winter Games
Halifax, NS – February 18, 2011 – The defending champions from Ontario went home with gold after downing previously undefeated Team Alberta 8-7 in an exciting overtime final at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax.
